Perimeter/Curtain
Drain
Helps
with seasonal water table

Why
do I need this you may ask......
A Perimeter
Drain is used to lower the seasonal water table in your soil.
Your soil already has to deal with Natures water and now we are
going to ask it to deal with yours as well. For your soil to do
this adequately we need to give it a little help by installing a
drain.

A
Perimeter Drain encircles the system and a Curtain Drain just shields
the uphill sides of the system.
Either drain is pretty critical on design, they are a narrow trench
that is dug around the field bed no closer than ten feet to the
laterals. They need to be deep enough and have a uniform grade to
the trench bottom.
This trench has a perforated pipe laid in the bottom and then the
trench is backfilled with aggregate to within 6" of the ground
surface. This trench should be at least 24" below the laterals,
in 2004 it will be 36" in some soils.

Our
preferred method is using a 4" corrugated roll tile with a
woven synthetic sock wrapped around it and we use Spec. #23 sand
to backfill with. We use a modified trencher with a mounted Laser
receiver to cut the trench
If you have been told of other
methods call me and I will discuss each ones advantages/disadvantages
and explain why we choose this method.
